Singer, songwriter and guitarist MotherMoon will celebrate the release of her self-released debut EP "Waiting In The Sky" with a special performance at Spike Hill on Friday, August 6th at 8:00 PM. Counting artists ranging from Jefferson Airplane to Etta James to Nirvana among her musical influences, Mothermoon writes songs that are at once powerful and plaintive about heartache and life's unexpected turns.

A New Yorker via Boston and Florida, MotherMoon (AKA Ashley Selett) has been writing poetry for as long as she can remember. The poems started turning into songs while Ashley was in college, where she picked up a guitar and taught herself how to play, setting her words to her own original music. In possession of a naturally bluesy, haunting voice that has drawn comparisons to Cat Power, Fiona Apple and Cowboy Junkies' Margo Timmins, she quickly started garnering attention for her singular sound. As MotherMoon, she moved to New York after school and is currently playing with bassist Joseph Colmenero, guitarist Myles Turney and percussionist Joel Arnow, all of whom will be performing with her at Spike Hill on Friday, August 6th.

"My only hope for the songs on 'Waiting In The Sky' is that they resonate with people," says Ashley. "There are some painful experiences that are universal, but can still overwhelm a single individual. I hope these songs let people know they're not alone."
