SPRING AWAKENING to Open at Theatre Three This Fall
Emily Gray directs the rock musical, with Dominic Norris and Gisela Garcia leading a cast of local and UTA performers.
Theatre Three brings the raw energy, passion, and rebellion of adolescence to the stage this season with a bold new production of Spring Awakening, running September 10–27 on the Norma Young Arena Stage. This powerful musical – directed by Emily Gray, music directed by Vicky Nooe and choreographed by Austin Eyer – explores the exhilaration, confusion, and heartbreak of 'coming of age' as a group of young people navigate love, identity, desire, and the pressures of a world that refuses to listen.
Based on the controversial play by Frank Wedekind, Spring Awakening follows a group of teenagers as they navigate the turbulent journey from adolescence to adulthood, discovering love, desire, and identity. With a powerful rock score and an unflinching look at the pressures placed on young people, this groundbreaking musical by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik explores what happens when youthful curiosity collides with rigid expectations, secrecy, and the struggle to be heard.
'Spring Awakening has always given a voice to young people and their truths with a fabulous rock score,' says Director Emily Gray. 'Supporting the next generation is imperative as we navigate our way out of hate and find love for all. Allow yourself to experience this beautiful show and find connections. The sorrow leads us to see the importance of love for all.'
'This co-pro with UTA is the latest way in which T3 is constantly promoting, mentoring and nurturing North Texas talent,' says Associate Artistic Director Christie Vela. 'Not only do we have an opportunity to bring in their faculty, who are some of the best and brightest professionals in the DFW theatre community, but having energetic, super talented young artists in our home is invigorating to us!'
The production features a dynamic cast of local talent as well as students from University of Texas at Arlington, including Julio Agustin*, Kyle Hughes*, Noah Ruebeck*, Dominic Norris, Gisela Garcia, Peyton Wilkinson, Caiden Garcia, Tilda Grace, Brianni Gaines, Benjamin Rodriguez, Gabriel Beach, Paloma Magaña, Axel Patiño, Aaron Rosales and Ava Von Kanel.
