Radio's Shadoe Stevens to Star as 'Voice of God' in Altar Boyz

Ken Davenport and Robyn Goodman, in association with Walter Grossman, Ruth Hendel, Sharon Karmazin, Matt Murphy, and Mark Shacket, announced today that radio legend Shadoe Stevens has been cast as the voice of God in ALTAR BOYZ. Shadoe Stevens will record his starring role on Monday, February 7th.

ALTAR BOYS will begin performances on Tuesday, February 15th, with opening night set for Tuesday, March 1st at Dodger Stages, Stage 4 (340 West 50th Street, just west of Eighth Avenue).

Shadoe Stevens, host of "American Top 40," the most successful and widely syndicated radio show in the world, heard by a billion people a week, has had many careers covering the radio, television and advertising industries. In radio he's been an award-winning personality, program director, and has created radio formats that have become standards. In television, he has produced and written, acted, and performed in various capacities including hundreds of voice-overs. Television credits include co-starring on two network series for CBS: "Loose Cannon," and for four years, the Top 20 series "Dave's World" with Harry Anderson as well as guest-starring on a wide range of hit TV series including: "Beverly Hills 90210", "Baywatch", "The Larry Sanders Show", "Caroline in the City", and "Sonny Spoon" (with Mario Van Peebles), as well as being one of the on-camera stars and the voice behind "Hollywood Squares."

ALTAR BOYZ is the new musical comedy about a struggling Christian boy-band riding the wave of America's latest fascination with religion. Armed with catchy melodies, divine moves and product in their hair, the self-anointed apostles of pop [ Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan . . . and Abraham (He's Jewish)] bring their soul-saving tour to New York City, with their heavenly lyrics like "Girl, You Make Me Wanna Wait" and "Jesus Called Me On My Cell Phone." ALTAR BOYZ has a score by Gary Adler (Musical Director of Avenue Q) and Michael Patrick Walker with book by Kevin Del Aguila (Six Story Building, Best Overall Production at the 2002 NYC Fringe Festival), based on an (immaculate) concept by Marc Kessler (The Manhattan Rhythm Kings) and Ken Davenport (Awesome 80s Prom).

Featured in the cast are Scott Porter (Toxic Audio) portrays Matthew; Ryan Duncan (Man of La Mancha, Fiddler on the Roof) will be again be Juan; David Josefsberg (Les Miserables, Grease) returns to his role as Abraham; Andy Karl (Saturday Night, Saturday Night Fever, On the Record) takes on Luke once more, and Tyler Maynard (Mamma Mia!, On The Record) continues as Mark, the youngest of the ALTAR BOYZ. ALTAR BOYZ will be directed by Stafford Arima and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli.
