The Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of The Apple Tree, with music by />/>Jerry Bock/>, lyrics by />/>Sheldon Harnick/> and book by Bock and Harnick, opened at Studio 54 on Thursday, December 14th after beginning previews on Tuesday, November 28th. The show will play a limited engagement through Sunday, March 11th, 2007.
Starring Tony Award-winner />Kristin Chenoweth/> (Wicked), />Marc Kudisch/> (See What I Wanna See) and />Brian d'Arcy James/> (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), The Apple Tree features direction by />/>Gary Griffin/> (The Color Purple), choreography by />/>/>/>Andy Blankenbuehler/>, with musical supervision by />/>/>/>Rob Fisher/>.
"From the songwriting team of She Loves Me and Fiddler On The Roof comes a unique evening of three one-act musicals about men, women and a little thing called temptation. The Apple Tree is based on "The Diary of Adam and Eve" by Mark Twain; "The Lady or the Tiger?" by Frank R. Stockton; and "Passionella" by Jules Feiffer, with additional book material by Jerome Coopersmith," state press notes. The Apple Tree premiered on Broadway on October 18th, 1966 at the Shubert Theatre starring />/>/>/>Alan Alda/> and Barbara Harris/>, directed by />/>/>/>Mike Nichols/>. The production is based on the acclaimed 2005 New York City Center Encores! revival of The Apple Tree staring Chenoweth and directed by Griffin.
