Patti Lupone eyes two potential Broadway showcases!

Two-time Tony Award-winning Broadway legend Patti LuPone is set to headline Douglas Carter Beane's autobiographical new play SHOWS FOR DAYS, directed by Jerry Zaks, at Lincoln Center Theater's Mitzi Newhouse Theater, with rehearsals beginning in March and previews set to begin June 4 according to a new article in The Hollywood Reporter.

Of course, LuPone currently joins with opera diva Patricia Racette for the new Los Angeles Opera production of THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES.

Additionally, LuPone is workshopping a new historically-based musical by the team of Scott Frankel, Michael Korie and Doug Wright titled WAR PAINT, centered on the real-life rivalry between cosmetics queens Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein, once rumored to co-star fellow two-time Tony Award winner Donna Murphy. No further information on the in-development new musical is available at this time.

The official description of Beane's SHOWS FOR DAYS is as follows: "SHOWS FOR DAYS is playwright Douglas Carter Beane's fond remembrance of his immersion into a life in the theater. The comedy is set in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1973, when 14-year old Car, the play's narrator and the author's alter-ego, is introduced to the world of theater through his local community theatre, the Prometheus Theatre, and its devoted cast and crew which is led by Irene, an indomitable force of nature whose life is dedicated to putting on productions she directs, designs and stars in."

The official description of THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES is as follows: "Trapped in the spirit world, the ghost of Marie Antoinette bitterly reflects on her final suffering. Her favorite playwright tries to entertain the melancholy queen with the continuing adventures of his beloved characters from The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro. But sneaky Figaro refuses to play by the script, breaking free from the opera-within-the-opera in a surprise bid for a better life."

THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES runs February 7 through March 1, 2015.
