PANGEA Reveals December Lineup

Pangea announced its December lineup!

On New Year's Eve, in their first-ever merger of marvelous mayhem, it's Molly Pope & Kim David Smith, cavorting in back-back-shows to ring out 2017 in outré style. Their first ever Champagne-soaked joint escapade, "No Thrill from Champagne" -- with Tracy Stark on piano -- will definitely swing both ways -- from the glam of yesteryear to the neo-here-and-now... It's a merger of "one of downtown cabaret's most adventurous performers" (Pope) and "this generation's Boy from Oz" (Smith) (according to the NY Times). Be a part of the sexiest (and most reasonably priced) NYE party in New York -- The evening includes (in both cases) a delicious 3-course dinner, and a half-bottle of Cava per person. Tax and gratuity are inclusive. (Additional beverages are not included, and are billed separately with 18% gratuity added.) Back-to-back shows at 8pm and 10:30pm, Sunday Dec 31.

THE RUN-UP TO NEW YEAR'S EVE

"Conversations with Claywoman" is back! A 500 million-year-old bag lady from another galaxy with a fondness for our planet, Claywoman -- portrayed by Michael Cavadias -- returns to earth for the holidays, and for another celebrity interview. This time it's special guest Julie Klausner who does the honors, probing Claywoman for what she finds so endearing about us and our planet. This is satire-improv of the highest order. Presented by Kevin Malony's TWEED TheaterWorks "Sundays at Seven" performance series. Sunday December 10 at 7pm. The cover is only $20.

Avant-gardist extraordinaire Penny Arcade ricochets back to her favorite neighborhood with a special one-night encore of "Longing Lasts Longer," her award-winning solo show co-created with her longtime collaborator Steve Zehentner. A trendsetter when most of us were still in diapers, Penny Arcade continues to astound with her razor sharp satire mixed live to her mind-bending soundscapes. The show's been performed internationally in 32 cities and counting. At long last it's back in NYC! Tues Dec 12 at 7:30pm. Cover just $20.

Special one-night-only encore: the acclaimed solo performer David Cale reprises his Obie-winning tour de force "Lillian," about a middle-aged English woman's ongoing love affair with a younger man. A mainstay of Kevin Malony's TWEED TheaterWorks "Sundays at Seven" performance series, Cale is currently enjoying breathless accolades for his wickedly funny thriller "Harry Clarke" starring Billy Crudup at the Vineyard Theatre. Get your tickets early for "Lillian!" Sun Dec 17 at 7pm. Cover just $20.

BroadwayWorld Award nominees Barbara Bleier and Austin Pendleton in "We Don't Remember Christmas" are up next! No matter what, if you want to enjoy a trip down memory lane to a time not so long ago when New York was really letting it all hang out, these are the exquisite saloon singer-raconteurs to take you there. Mon Dec 11 and 18, both at 7pm. Cover just $20.

For a special holiday encore Tammy Faye Starlite brings back the highly acclaimed "Just a Kiss Away," her rock 'n roll Valentine probing the Mick Jagger and Keith Richards songbook. For four sold-out weeks in October Starlite focused on a different Rolling Stones album every week. This night will be a best-of sampler of all the albums she covered. A marvel of in-character improv, historical perspective, and witty social commentary all rolled into one, Starlite is not to be missed. Thurs Dec 28 at 7:30pm. SOLD OUT!

It's time to say goodbye! The indescribable vocalist and storyteller Rachelle Garniez will have you wailing in the streets after her 2nd annual "Farewell Party," her spirited countdown of the amazing musicians who left us in the last 365. Tonight the genre-straddling multi-instrumentalist has bassist Derek Nievergelt and violinist Karen Waltuch on her side. Her music has been described in The NY Times as "romantic, rhapsodic and casually hilarious," and she's a Pangea favorite... Say your goodbyes on Friday Dec 29, at 7pm. Cover is $25

Also impossible to miss... The New York icon and indomitable blues mama Baby Jane Dexter shares her ample gifts, which, despite several recent health set-backs, continue to burn with volcanic intensity. She rings out the old year in "Baby Jane Dexter Is Back," with Ross Patterson on Sat Dec 30, at 7pm. Cover is $20

Downtown's alternative supper-club Pangea, which The NY Times recently called "a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by," has been programming music and performance since January 2015.

For information, or to order online, visit www.pangeanyc.com or call 212/995-0900. Pangea is located at 178 Second Avenue (between 11th & 12th Streets).
