
Music Theatre Group Hosts Music-Theatre Jam In DUMBO 4/9
In celebration of the company's 40th Anniversary, The Music-Theatre Group (Diane Wondisford, Producing Director) has announced plans for their "Music-Theatre Jam," a one-time-only happening featuring a treasure-trove of material from their past productions, to take place on Saturday, April 9th at 10 Jay Street, 9th Floor in DUMBO at 6:00 p.m.
"Music-Theatre Jam" will feature scenes from Richard Foreman and Stanley Silverman's Dr. Selavy's Magic Theatre and Africanis Instructus, Hotel for Criminals, Harry Kondoleon and Gary Fagin's Disrobing the Bride, Virgil Thomson and Gertrude Stein's The Mother of Us All, Diedre Murray and Cornelius Eady's Fangs, George W.S. Trow's The Tennis Game and Prison-Made Tuxedos, Susie Ibarra and Yusef Komunyakaa's Saturnalia, Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal's Juan Darien, The Songs of Mary Rodgers (with lyrics by Marshall Barer and John Forrester), Derek Bermel and Wendy S. Walters' Golden Motors, and Poppie Nongena by Elsa Joubert (adapted by Hillary Blecher with music by Sophie Mgcina).Performances will include the theatrical talents of Brenda Currin, John DiPinto (Music Director), Rinde Eckert (Pulitzer Prize Finalist, Obie Award Winner), Gary Fagin, Laura Innes ("The Event"), Alan Johnson (Music Director), Gabriel Kahane, Yusef Komunyakaa, Teresa McCarthy, Tshidi Manye (The Lion King), Kenita Miller, Milton Craig Nealy (The Full Monty, Caroline or Change), Reg Rogers (Free Man of Color), Henry Stram (Spring Awakening, Titanic) and Alton Fitzgerald White (The Lion King).
The evening will begin with music and cocktails at 6:00 p.m. in the Red Space of 10 Jay Street, 9th Floor, courtesy of OneArmRed, and will then move into the A-Space for the performance portion of the evening with music to follow.
