Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts will conclude its 2025–26 Early Music series with City of Echoes—Rome in the 16th Century, performed by the award-winning ensemble The Marian Consort. The concert takes place on Saturday, February 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Midtown Manhattan.

Led by founder and director Rory McCleery, The Marian Consort will explore the rich musical culture of 16th-century Rome, tracing networks of influence and inspiration among composers working in and around the city. The program features works by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Josquin des Prez, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Orlando di Lasso, Jean Mouton, and Vicente Lusitano, alongside plainchant and lesser-known repertoire that sheds light on Rome’s vibrant sacred music traditions.

Selections include Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli (Gloria) and Missa Benedicta es (Kyrie), Josquin’s Ave Maria … virgo serena, Victoria’s Ave regina caelorum, and multiple works by Lusitano, whose music has been central to The Marian Consort’s efforts to champion marginalized Renaissance composers. The ensemble’s performance emphasizes clarity of texture and expressive intimacy, hallmarks of its interpretive approach.

Tickets for the concert start at $30, with student tickets available for $10 with valid ID. The Church of St. Mary the Virgin is located at 145 West 46th Street, between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
