Midtown Theatre Festival Script Deadline Extended to March 27th

The Midtown International Theatre Festival has pushed back the deadline for submissions to the end of March (March 27th) and is sounding the call once again for entries to its annual cornucopia of theatre productions this July.

"We've got a number of theatres participating in the MITF this year," Festival Founder and Executive Producer John Chatterton said, "and we're looking for top-quality product to help fill them. From musicals to comedies, dramas to one-person shows - everything is open for consideration so long as it's professionally done. And if there's something submitted that's a bit out of the ordinary, that's fine too."

Last year the MITF, selected as one of the top 60 festivals worldwide in Lisa Mulcahy's THEATER FESTIVALS: Best Worldwide Venues for New Works (Allworth Press, 2005), presented over 50 shows in five separate spaces - all on the same block. This year, the Festival hopes to up both the total of venues and productions and is looking for product to help them to fill that bill.

This year's Midtown International Theatre Festival (the seventh) is scheduled to begin Monday, July 17, 2007 and run for 21 days, finishing on Sunday August 6th. (Though extensions of some shows are always a possibility - as in years past.)

Those interested in submitting a script, as well as any other production materials (video, audiotapes, etc.) must first download an MITF application form at www.midtownfestival.org. (When you get to the website, click on "Apply.") All materials, plus a $30.00 reading fee, should be sent to The Midtown International Theatre Festival, 347 West 36th Street, Room 1204, New York, New York 10018. Scripts without application forms will be rejected. Please include an SASE if you want your materials returned.

"If you are an independent producer or playwright and need to test the commercial viability of your project, you can't beat the MITF ... participation in the MITF is a financially feasible way to present your work, have it seen by reviewers and other theatre professionals, and assess your project's readiness," noted John Capo, of John Capo Productions. Capo is a two-year veteran of the MITF and plans to submit a project to this year's Festival as well.
