On September 5, 2005 Universal Music Spain will release the local cast version of Mamma Mia!, recorded recently in Madrid.

The Spanish version of the Broadway smash opened in November 2004 at the Lope de Vega Theatre in Madrida's Gran Via.  The lead role of Donna is played by Nina, famous for her involvement in local TV phenomenon, "Operación Triunfo" (Spain's "Fame Academy").  The Spanish cast album, which is produced by the original Mamma Mia! production team of Martin Koch and Nick Gilpin with Abba members Björn and Benny taking on a supervision role, was recorded in the Lope de Vega Theatre in May with the full original cast. As with the other versions, their interpretations of the songs of Abba are unique but remain faithful to the original.

In September, after a summer break, the musical returns to the Madrid stage. This return will be supported by a full marketing push on behalf of StageHolding Spain. The cast album will be prominently featured in all activity.

Mamma Mia!, which opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre (1634 Broadway) on October 18th, 2001, has played over 820 performances in New York and continues to play to full houses. Mamma Mia! takes place on a tiny Greek Island, as a mother and daughter try to settle the girl's paternity before her wedding. The show is set to the songs of ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, with hits including "Dancing Queen," "Money, Money, Money" and "The Winner Takes It All." Internationally, total of 11 global productions (9 resident productions and 2 tours) currently generate over $8 million a week in ticket sales.  At first produced in London, Mamma Mia! has been seen in countries as diverse as Holland, Germany, Japan and Korea.

Mamma Mia!'s book is by Catherine Johnson, with direction by Phyllida Lloyd and choreography by Anthony Van Laast. Produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East and Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal, the musical features production design by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken and musical supervision, additional material and arrangements by Martin Koch.
