Resonance Ensemble will present the worldpremiere of Larry Loebell's (The Ballad of John Wesley Reed, Girl Science, Memorial Day) contemporary romantic fantasy La Tempestad in repertory with the play that inspired it, Shakespeare's The Tempest, adapted and directed by Victor Maog. Previews of The Tempest will begin October 7 prior to the official press opening of October 14, while previews of La Tempestad begin October 9 prior to the official press opening of October 13 - both at the Ohio Theatre (66 Wooster Street) in Manhattan.

La Tempestad is "a contemporary romantic fantasy by Philadelphia-based playwright Larry Loebell sets Prospero on the tropical island of Vieques, Puerto Rico in self-imposed exile where he practices the antiquarian arts. After a stormy crossing, three couples - including Prospero's daughter Miranda and her fiancé Ferdinand - are swept up in the island's history of passion, politics and magic. As U.S. military pilots practice for the invasion of Iraq in the unpredictable skies overhead, each couple ponders the prospects of marriage and tests the limits of their love," according to production notes.

Directed by Resonance Ensemble Artistic Director Eric Parness - the cast of La Tempestad includes: Gordon Stanley (Original cast member of Broadway's Ragtime and Beauty and the Beast), Alberto Bonilla, Brian Flegel, Vivia Font, Felipe Javier Gorostiza, Ed Jewett, Lori McNally, Patrick Melville, Ray A. Rodriguez, Frank Tamez and James T. Ware.

The production team for the show includes: Martin T. Lopez (Scenic Design), Aaron Copp (Lighting Design), Sidney Shannon (Costume Design) and Nick Moore (Sound Design).

The Tempest - adapted by Victor Maog - is Shakespeare's magical and mysterious final play. It tells the story of a banished Prospero who controls his island-prison, its visitors, and its inhabitants by mixing reality and illusion to create a world in which nothing is as it seems. Victor Maog's new adaptation, in which three actors play all of Shakespeare's roles, concentrates on the play's themes of imprisonment, longing, and love.

Directed by Victor Maog (2004 NEA/TCG Career Development Program Grant Recipient) - the cast of the show includes: Rashaad Ernesto Green, Daniel Larlham (West End's Romeo and Juliet) and Orlando Pabotoy (Obie Award Winner--The Romance of Magno Rubio).

The show's production team includes: Martin T. Lopez (Scenic and Costume Design), Aaron Copp (Lighting Design), Elizabeth Rhodes (Sound Design) and Brian Kulick (NEA/TCG Mentor).

Under the Artistic Direction of Eric Parness and Managing Direction of Rachel Reiner, Resonance Ensemble is dedicated to developing new theatrical work inspired by the timelessness and universalism of the classics, and to producing resonating groups of theatrical presentations that echo across countless cultures and eras to confront themes and ideas significant to audiences of today.
