Kim Cattrall--the "Sex and the City" star who made an auspicious West End debut last year in
Who's Life is It Anyway--will return to the London stage in the Donmar Warehouse's upcoming staging of David Mamet's
The Cryptogram.The revival of
The Cryptogram--a drama about a dysfunctional '50s family--will begin previews at the Donmar on October 12th and open on October 17th. It will be directed by Josie Rourke, with the other two roles yet to be cast.
The Cryptogram was seen Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre in 1995;
Felicity Huffman and Ed Begley Jr. were among the cast of the play, which was directed by Mamet (
Glengarry Glen Ross, Oleanna).
Last year, Cattrall received glowing reviews for her performance as Claire in Sir Peter Hall's West End production of
Whose Life Is It Anyway. She also appeared on Broadway in 1986's
Wild Honey. Cattrall's film credits include
Ice Princess, Above Suspicion, The Bonfire of the Vanities, and
Mannequin, but she is best known to TV audiences for her work as Samantha on "Sex and the City."
In addition, more casting has been announced for other shows that will be presented as part of the Donmar's 2006-2007 season. Rhys Ifans (films such as V
anity Fair, The Shipping News) will star as the hedonistic title character in Patrick Marber's Moliere adaptation
Don Juan in Soho, and Penelope Wilton (
Match Point, upcoming
History Boys film) has been cast opposite the previously announced
Ian McDiarmid (Tony Award-winner for
Faith Healer) in Ibsen's
John Gabriel Borkman. Don Juan in Soho runs
November 30th through February 10th, 2007, and
John Gabriel Borkman begins previews on February 15th and runs through April 14th. Frank Langella (Fortune's Fool, Dracula) and Michael Sheen (Amadeus on the West End) were previously announced as the stars of Frost/Nixon, running August 10th through October 7th, 2006.
