Houston Ballet Expands Summer Programming in San Antonio

Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM and Academy Interim Director Vicki Attard are thrilled to announce an addition to Houston Ballet's annual Summer Programming.

Along with its distinguished 6-week intensive held in Houston, the company will also host a two-week workshop in San Antonio. The new workshop aims to increase Houston Ballet and its Academy's reach in the state of Texas.

Open to intermediate students ages 12 - 15, the workshop will take place at the Dance Center of San Antonio, July 2 - 14, 2018.

The workshop will focus on classes in classical ballet technique, pointe, character, repertoire and contemporary dance. Classes will be held Monday - Saturday taught by Ms. Attard and Houston Ballet Soloist Christopher Coomer. Optional master classes and teacher workshops will also be available on Sundays taught by Ms. Attard. Master classes and teacher workshops will be open to the general public to enroll and attend. The participants of the two-week workshop may also attend these master classes and teacher workshops for an additional fee added to their program.

"I am so excited about our new two-week San Antonio Summer workshop," says Ms. Attard. "Each student in attendance will be challenged through a variety of engaging classes with an emphasis on the foundational principles of pure, classical ballet technique. I am also delighted to welcome the teachers of San Antonio and surrounding areas to my Sunday master classes, a wonderful opportunity to share knowledge and develop new relationships."

Auditions for the workshop will take place Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. at the Dance Center of San Antonio located 126 W Rector Suite 120, San Antonio, TX 78216. Online preregistration fee is $35 and on-site registration fee is $40. Students are encouraged to preregister and bring a receipt of payment, a copy of the downloadable audition form as well as a headshot and full body first arabesque photo with them to the audition. More information about the summer intensive and how to audition can be found on Houston Ballet's website by visiting houstonballet.org/academy.
