Harry Connick Jr. In Talks for Next Season's AMERICAN IDOL
In an interview with E! News, Harry Connick Jr. confirmed that he is currently in talks with producers of American Idol to appear as a judge on the next season of the singing competition.
"It's been talked about before - who knows what'll happen in the future," he told E! News. "What I've done thus far on the show has been really fun, so I've had a great time... You know, they kinda wanted to know if I would be interested in it."
The singer revealed that he was approached about the opportunity as far back as Season 9 when he appeared as a guest mentor. "I was so flattered that they were kind of talking about it. And it didn't work out." he explained. "There were a lot of things going on on their side and a lot of things going on on my side with just stuff. It's hard to make a commitment like that."
Connick's upcoming busy schedule could hinder his ability to appear on the show on a weekly basis however. "I'm going on tour this year so, like, when would I do it?" he said. "It's that kind of thing."
On this week's American Idol, Connick mentored the final four contestants, Amber Holcomb, Angie Miller, Candice Glover and Kree Harrison and performed his new single "Every Man Should Know" on last night's results show.
In addition to his starring role in On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, Connick Jr returned to Broadway during the summer of 2010 for 15 sold-out performances of Harry Connick, Jr. In Concert at the Neil Simon Theatre. His previous Broadway performances include the Tony-nominated turn as Sid Sorokin in the 2006 revival of The Pajama Game.
