Hanging Art Organization in association with Gallery at New World Stages, located at 343 West 49th Street, today announced a new exhibition of works by Nelia Gibbs & Nuria Rabanillo-de la Fuente. This show presents 38 of Gibbs's original acrylic paintings and 10 paintings by Fuente and is on view from January 4 through February 27, 2011, with an Opening Reception on January 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. Curator Bernard Stote manages the two-woman show.

The main gallery showcases works by African-American artist Nelia Gibbs, who paints simple scenic environments in subdued colors. Gibbs works in acrylic on canvas and has a distinctive style, utilizing bold brush strokes. She studied at the Art Students League and attended the School of Visual Arts and the Jamaica (NY) Art Center. She shared a two-person show at Fountain Gallery Serendipitous with Gail Shamchenko. Gibbs has also exhibited her work at Starbucks and at Club Access, a non-profit organization working with artists. Her work will be featured at the Outsider Art Fair in February at Booth #24.

Also on exhibit in the annex gallery are original paintings by Nuria Rabanillo-de la Fuente. Fuente is a native of Spain and has recently been living in America. She studied art at the Europe Institute of Design in Milan, Italy, after receiving a grant from the Ministry of the Board of Castile Mancha. Fuente is a graduate in Applied Arts and Crafts from Marqués de Cubas in Madrid, Spain. She also studied sculpture and drawing in Spain. Fuente has recently shown at the Manhattan Theatre Source and at the Spanish Benevolent Society, and she participated in the 2010 end_of_the_skype_highlighHell 's Kitchen Artists in Studio Tour. Her work has also been exhibited at New York City's Montserrat Contemporary Art Gallery.

About Hanging Art Organization
After reading the book The Artist's Way, in 2004 Bernard Stote conceived the idea that would develop into Hanging Art Organization: He mounted a one-man show of his own artwork in his 300 square foot studio apartment. More than 85 people passed through to view this "exhibition", and thus began Stote's journey of showing artists' work in their apartments and at coffee houses and businesses in Midtown Manhattan. Since 1989, Stote has been involved in the arts communities of Philadelphia, Miami, and New York, serving as a conservator of art, rare books and manuscripts; a PEW Foundation grant assistant; a museum exhibit designer; and a guest curator, art installer, and volunteer for non-profit organizations in the New York metropolitan area.
