Variety has reported that producer Jeffrey Finn is considering taking Fannie Flagg's novel, Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe from the page to the stage.

"It's highly theatrical," Finn said of the property. "The women's parallel stories can be told simultaneously on stage."

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe was, of course, turned into a 1991 film that co-starred Kathy Bates, Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary-Louise Parker, Jessica Tandy and Cicely Tyson. The book and movie recounted the tale of an unhappy housewife who befriends a woman at a nursing home; the old lady regales her with tales of the people who have passed through her life.

Finn produced the currently-running revival of On Golden Pond. He is the head of Jeffrey Finn Productions,
"a boutique theatrical agency specializing in touring Broadway engagements worldwide."

Flagg, who was a familiar face to TV audiences in the '70s for her recurring stints on The Match Game, will reportedly be "very involved" with the adaptation; Finn is still searching for a writer to turn the novel into a play.
