In the tradition of the theatre's most celebrated musical comedy performers, four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein stars as Tevye, and three-time Emmy Award winner, and Tony Award winner Andrea Martin stars as his wife, Golde in the Broadway production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, with an official press opening of Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the Minskoff Theatre (200 West 45th Street).

Harvey Fierstein is the winner of an unprecedented four Tony Awards in four different categories: Best Actor in a Musical for Hairspray (2003), Best Actor in a Play and Best Play for writing and starring in Torch Song Trilogy (1983), and Best Book of a Musical for La Cage aux Folles (1984).

Andrea Martin's Broadway credits include Oklahoma! (Tony award nomination); Candide (Tony award nomination); My Favorite Year (Tony, Drama Desk, Theatre World awards). Off Broadway she was seen in The Exonerated; The Vagina Monologues; Encores! Out of This World; and NYSF's The Merry Wives of Windsor, Nude Nude Totally Nude. Film and Television: New York Minute, My Big Fat Greek Wedding (SAG award nomination), Hedwig and the Angry Inch, All Over the Guy, Wag the Dog, Stepping Out, "Sesame Street" (special Emmy award), "SCTV" (2 Emmy awards).

Directed by five-time Tony Award nominee David Leveaux, with Jerome Robbins' original Tony Award-winning choreography, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has a book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF opened Thursday, February 26, 2004, at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre (200 West 45th Street), and is produced by James L. Nederlander, Stewart F. Lane/ Bonnie Comley, Harbor Entertainment, Terry Allen Kramer, Bob Boyett/Lawrence Horowitz and Clear Channel Entertainment.

In addition to Harvey Fierstein and Andrea Martin, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF also stars Stephen Lee Anderson, John Cariani, Nick Danielson, Patrick Heusinger, Philip Hoffman, Sally Murphy, Tricia Paoluccio, Robert Petkoff, Laura Shoop, David Wohl, Yusef Bulos, Chris Ghelfi, Betsy Hogg, Mark Lotito, Tom Titone, Alison Walla, David Best, Ward Billeisen, Randy Bobish, Melissa Bohon, Enrique Brown, Kristin Carbone, Rachel Coloff, Sean Curley, Rita Harvey, Joy Hermalyn, Keith Kühl, Gina Lamparella, Jeff Lewis, Roger Rosen, David Rossmer, Haviland Stillwell, Barbara Tirrell, Michael Tommer, Francis Toumbakaris, Ann Van Cleave, Bruce Winant, Gustavo Wons, Adam Zotovich and Nancy Opel as Yente.

Based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is set in the small Russian village of Anatevka on the eve of the Russian Revolution, and tells the humorous and heartbreaking story of the dairyman Tevye, who is trying to maintain the simplicities of his traditional life while his five daughters are quickly growing up.

The original Broadway production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF opened on September 22, 1964 at the Imperial Theatre, won eight 1965 Tony Awards including Best Musical and played 7 preview and 3,242 regular performances, making Broadway history as the longest running Broadway show.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF has a scenic design by Tom Pye, costume design by Vicki Mortimer, lighting design by Tony Award-winner Brian MacDevitt, and sound design by Acme Sound Partners. Hair design is by David Brian Brown, with musical staging by Jonathan Butterell and musical direction by Kevin Stites, leading a 25 piece orchestra featuring the original orchestrations by Don Walker.

The playing schedule for FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is as follows: Tuesday at 7pm, Wednesday through Saturday at 8pm, with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 3pm.
