Everyday Inferno Theatre Company Presents The World Premiere Of Carol Lashof's THE MELTING POT

Everyday Inferno Theatre Company is thrilled to announce their production of Carol Lashof's The Melting Pot will play a limited run at The Access Theater in March. The play, directed by Alex Keegan and produced by Ana?s Koivisto and Katherine Sommer, features John Blaylock (The Metropolitan Playhouse), Matt DaSilva (Beauty and the Beast National Tour), Ty Gaines, Maya Jasmin (Manhattan Repertory Theatre), Franz Jones (Big River, Original Broadway production), Isaac Allen Miller, Talia Reich, and Rochelle Slovin (Russian Arts Theatre).

...here you stand in your fifty groups, with your fifty languages and histories, and your fifty blood hatreds and rivalries. But you won't be long like that, brothers, for these are the fires of God you've come to-these are the fires of God.

In Carol Lashof's incendiary world premiere play, the blossoming relationship between two recent immigrants stalls at the crossroads between the promises of the future, and horrors of the past. At the turn of a century that feels startlingly familiar, young lovers David Quixano and Vera Revendal enter the American crucible and are re-formed. Through a rich blend of languages, cultures, humor, and music, The Melting Pot weaves text from Israel Zangwill's 1908 smash melodrama of the same name with voices from the early 20th century culture wars, creating an entirely new work that lays bare the wonders and wounds of immigrant America.

CAROL S. LASHOF (Playwright) is a playwright, educator, and theater producer. Her work has been broadcast on BET and NPR, and staged on five continents from The Magic Theatre of San Francisco to Peking University in Beijing. In addition to The Melting Pot, her recent plays include Disclosure, Just Deserts, and Gap. Carol holds a PhD from Stanford University and is Professor Emerita at Saint Mary's College of California where she helped to establish the Creative Writing MFA Program. Carol cofounded Those Women Productions in Berkeley, California, with a mission to explore hidden truths of gender and power. Member, Dramatists Guild.

ALEX KEEGAN (Director) has directed for The Habitat, Williamstown, Cherry Lane Theatre, UP Theatre Co., The Flea, O'Neill Theater Center YPF, MCC FreshPlay, Judson Memorial Church, UglyRhino, and NYU Tisch. Member/Alum: SDC Associate, NYTW Adelphi Residency, The Drama League's Artist Residency, Williamstown Directing Corps, Geva Theatre Center Directing Fellowship, Lincoln Center Directors Lab, The Civilians R&D Group, Rattlestick's Middle Voice Company. Assistant Directing - Broadway: 24 Hour Plays; Williamstown: Boo Killebrew's Romance Novels for Dummies (dir. Moritz von Stuelpnagel), Sam Hunter's A Great Wilderness (dir. Eric Ting); Woolly Mammoth: Clare Barron's Baby Screams Miracle (dir. Howard Shalwitz). B.A. Brown University.
