David Alan Grier Joins Cast of The Mambo Kings

Tony nominee David Alan Grier, well known to audiences for a wide array of film, television and theater roles, has joined the cast of THE MAMBO KINGS. Grier will play nightclub impresario Fernando Perez, replacing Billy Dee Williams, who withdrew from the production earlier this week due to an aggravated hip condition. Grier will immediately join co-stars Esai Morales, Jaime Camil, Albita and Justina Machado in San Francisco, where THE MAMBO KINGS begins performances at the Golden Gate Theatre May 24, playing there through June 19. THE MAMBO KINGS begins performances on Broadway Wednesday, July 20 at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway), with an official opening night of Thursday, August 18.

David Alan Grier last starred on Broadway as Pseudolus in the hit revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. He made his Broadway debut fresh out of Yale Drama School in the musical The First, playing baseball legend Jackie Robinson, and garnering a Tony nomination as Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He also starred in the Broadway production of Dreamgirls. Other theater performances include A Soldier's Play and Merry Wives of Windsor for the New York Shakespeare Festival. He is well known to millions for his acclaimed comedic work on several network television series, beginning with Fox's hugely popular "In Living Color." He also starred in the NBC series "Dag" and the Fox series "Damon" and "The Preston Episodes," and most recently on ABC's "Life With Bonnie." His film roles include this summer's Bewitched, as well as BadAss, Tiptoes, The Woodsman, King of Texas, 15 Minutes, Return to Me, Jumanji and Boomerang.
