The Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturdays event attracts thousands of visitors to free programs of art and entertainment each month. May's Target First Saturday celebrates new acquisitions, emerging artists, and creative voices. Highlights include the 2nd Annual Eco Fair, a performance by the Brooklyn-based band Red Baraat Festival, a screening of the film The Cat Returns, and a salsa dance party hosted by Grupo Latin Vibe.

SCHEDULE OF PROGRAMS

4-8 p.m. 2nd Annual Eco Fair
Find eco-friendly gifts from a selection of local artisans and authors in the Museum Shop.

5-7 p.m. Music
Brooklyn-based band Red Baraat Festival combines trumpets, saxophones, trombone, and sousaphone with a double-sided barrel drum called the dhol, melding brass funk with the infectious North Indian rhythm of bhangra.

5-8 pm. Interactive Program
Join artist Elaine Tin Niyo to create a spring bouquet from the Permanent Collection using your camera phone.

5-10:30 p.m. Object of the Month
Explore the Japanese sculpture Infinity II (Shinso) with the help of a Looking Closer guide.

5:30-6:30 p.m. Dance
Brooklyn's LAVA dance company performs a combination of contemporary dance, theater, and acrobatics. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m.

6:30-8:30 p.m. Hands-On Art
Create a floral wall hanging inspired by the exhibition Kiki Smith: Sojourn. Free timed tickets available at the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m.

7 p.m. Curator Talk
Eugenie Tsai, John and Barbara Vogelstein Curator of Contemporary Art, on newly acquired contemporary works in the Museum's collection. Sign Language interpreted. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 6 p.m.

7-8:30 p.m. Film
The Cat Returns (Hiroyuki Morita, 2002, 75 min., PG). A young girl embarks on a magical feline adventure. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 6 p.m.

7:30 p.m. Film
Sabrina Gschwandtner, author of KnitKnit: Profiles and Projects from Knitting's New Wave (Abrams, 2007), presents a series of short documentaries on handicraft entitled "No Idle Hands." Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 6:30 p.m.

8 p.m. Young Voices Gallery Talk
Student Guides highlight artistic innovations in the Museum's Contemporary and Asian Art collections.

9 p.m. Book Club
Zora O'Neill and Tamara Reynolds discuss their guide to do-it-yourself entertaining, Forking Fantastic! Put the Party Back in Dinner Party.

9-11 p.m. Dance Party
Grupo Latin Vibe hosts a salsa party with their live ensemble. Learn salsa dance moves with Stepping Out Studios at 8 p.m.

Throughout the evening, a cash bar will offer beer and wine, and the Museum Café will serve a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, and beverages. The Museum Shop will remain open until 11 p.m. Some Target First Saturday programs have limited space available and are ticketed on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs are subject to change without notice. Museum admission is free after 5 p.m. Museum galleries are open until 11 p.m. Parking is a flat rate of $4 from 5 to 11 p.m.
