COME FROM AWAY to Debut at Kansas City Repertory Theatre
Performances will run September 1 – 20, 2026 at Spencer Theatre.
Kansas City Repertory Theatre will present Come From Away, the musical based on the remarkable true story of nearly 7,000 airline passengers from around the world who were grounded in the small Canadian town of Gander, Newfoundland, in the wake of the 9/11 attacks. Playing Sept. 1 – 20, 2026 at Spencer Theatre, the production arrives during the 25th anniversary of 9/11, offering a breathtaking tale of triumph that will leave audiences cheering for the power of community.
With book, music and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, and directed by KCRep Artistic Director Stuart Carden, Come From Away reminds us that amid fear and uncertainty, joy and resilience prevail. Through music, humor and heart, this Broadway hit celebrates the power of human connection, shows how kindness can unite us in the unlikeliest moments, and affirms that hope can arise in the most unexpected places.
On the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Come From Away tells the true story of the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, whose 9,000 residents welcomed and cared for nearly 7,000 stranded airline passengers when 38 planes were diverted there in the wake of 9/11. Featuring an eclectic mix of music and an ensemble cast portraying real-life passengers and locals alike, this heartwarming and uplifting musical follows the true stories of the world coming together in a moment of crisis, and celebrates the compassion, generosity and humor that emerged from tragedy.

Lauren Braton (Beverly and Others) returns to KC Rep, having recently appeared in Fun Home with the company; Val Fagan (Beulah and Others) returns after several decades away, having originated the Off-Broadway hit Forbidden Broadway: Rude Awakening (Drama Desk Award); Sinclair Freeman (Bob and Others) returns after recently starring in A Christmas Carol at Dallas Theater Center; Robert J. Hingula (Oz and Others) returns after recently appearing in West Side Story at Starlight Theatre; Russell Konstans (Claude and Others) makes his KC Rep debut, having recently starred in Come From Away at the Paramount Theatre in the Chicago area; Noah Lindquist (Kevin T. and Others) returns after appearing in Fun Home and recently making his Carnegie Hall debut in the Liza! at 80 concert; Tina Maddigan Mayer (Bonnie and Others) makes her KC Rep debut, having originated the role of Sophie in the original Broadway cast of Mamma Mia!; Cody Proctor (Nick and Others) returns after recently appearing in The Iceman Cometh at Chicago's Goodman Theatre; Adam Qutaishat (Kevin J. and Others) makes their KC Rep debut in their third production of Come From Away, having previously performed the role with Paramount Theatre and TheatreWorks Silicon Valley; Julie Shaw (Diane and Others) returns after recently appearing in Fiddler on the Roof at Spinning Tree Theatre; Bethany Thomas (Hannah and Others) makes her KC Rep debut, having recently portrayed guitar icon Sister Rosetta Tharpe in Marie and Rosetta; and Bri Woods (Janice and Others) returns after recently appearing in Little Women at Portland Center Stage and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.
