COME FROM AWAY Trailer Released Ahead of Theatre Calgary Season Finale
Jesse Robb directs a 12-person ensemble in the Sankoff and Hein musical about strangers finding community.
Theatre Calgary has released an official trailer for COME FROM AWAY, the musical that will close out the company's current season. The preview offers audiences a glimpse into the production's ensemble-driven storytelling, underscoring the warmth and urgency that have made the show a phenomenon since its Broadway debut.
COME FROM AWAY features book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, drawing on the true events of September 11, 2001, when nearly 7,000 airline passengers were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, after American airspace was closed. The musical chronicles how the small Canadian town absorbed those stranded travelers, transforming a moment of global crisis into an unlikely story of generosity and human connection.
Jesse Robb directs and choreographs the Theatre Calgary production, with Steven Greenfield serving as musical director. The twelve-person principal cast includes Mark Bellamy, Andy Cohen, Selena Fisher, Sora Gibbons, Jawon Mapp, Evangelia Kambites, and Blair Young, among others, supported by a live band rooted in Celtic instrumentation including bodhran, mandolin, and Irish flutes. The production closes Theatre Calgary's season, arriving at a moment when its themes of cross-border solidarity carry particular resonance for Canadian audiences.
The production has already generated significant audience response in Calgary. BroadwayWorld's review praised the staging as transformative, noting that nearly every performance has sold out and that additional dates have been added to meet demand.
