Review: KINKY BOOTS , Edinburgh Playhouse Review: KINKY BOOTS , Edinburgh Playhouse Its three-year London run is almost at an end, but Kinky Boots is currently strutting its way across Britain on its first ever UK tour.

Based on the 2005 film, it tells of a struggling Northampton shoe factory and the lengths its owner, Charlie Price, will go to keep it open.

A chance meeting with a drag act named Lola leads Charlie to take the factory in a different direction and to start manufacturing high-heeled boots for a more niche market. Through the ups and downs of their new business venture, Charlie and Lola discover that they have more in common than first appeared.

This is a genuinely uplifting, feel-good show with a stellar cast - a standout being Paula Lane as Lauren, a ditzy but lovable factory worker. Joel Harper-Jackson gives a fantastic performance as Charlie, the young man torn between his fiancée's dream of living the London high life and trying to make sure his family's factory prospers.

Showstopper Kayi Ushe sasses his way through the production as the larger-than-life Lola, although he has some beautiful tender moments that demonstrate Lola's vulnerability.

Kinky Boots is glitzy, glamorous and full of heart - "everybody say yeah" to a ticket this festive season!

Kinky Boots is at the Edinburgh Playhouse until 5 January, 2019 before continuing its UK tour
