In cooperation with Carnegie Hall and the New York Philharmonic, Deutsche Grammophon has released BERNSTEIN: THE BEST OF ALL POSSIBLE WORLDS, a new music compilation featuring Leonard Bernstein as both composer and conductor, drawn from his extensive Deutsche Grammophon discography. This double-CD  tribute to one of America's most talented and widely known musicians was released in conjunction with a festival commemorating the 90th anniversary of Leonard Bernstein's birth, and the 50th anniversary of his appointment as music director of the New York Philharmonic. To honor the event, Carnegie Hall and the New York Philharmonic present a festival of 50 events throughout New York from September 24 through December 13, 2008.

The CD compilation highlights the variety and magnitude of Bernstein's work, both on the podium and as a composer. This set features brilliant performances by Leonard Bernstein and also highlights many of his collaborations. Included are numerous performances with the New York Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic as well as performances by Mstislav Rostropovich, Frederica von Stade, Thomas Hampson and others.

Part of the San Francisco Symphony's celebration of their 118th season was a tribte to Leonard Bernstein. PBS filmed the opening night gala on September 24, 2008. The concert took place at Carnegie Hall and featured Christine Ebersole as vocalist. The evening was musically directed and performed by Michael Tilson Thomas. Pieces that were performed include Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Selections from A Quiet Place, "I Can Cook Too" from On the Town, Meditation No. 1 from Mass, "What a Movie!" from Trouble in Tahiti, "To What You Said" from Songfest, "Danzón" from Fancy Free, "Gee, Officer Krupke" from West Side Story and "Ya Got Me" from On the Town.
