The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Beewill fly to Atlanta's ALLIANCE THEATRE for a month-long run before embarking on its national tour.The show will play for a month at the Atlanta theatre beginning August 23rd before setting out on a US tour, which will kick off in Baltimore from September 19th through October 1st. Casting for the national tour has not yet been announced (it will begin in the spring); the original creative team will be on hand, though, for both the Atlanta run and the tour.
Spelling Bee is also currently playing in a sitdown production at San
Francisco's The Post Street Theatre and will do the same at Chicago's
Drury Lane Theatre Water Tower Place beginning March 28th. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
continues to be a Broadway hit at Circle in the Square, where it opened on May 2nd, 2005. In
the musical, "six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by
grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that
winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a
loser in this funny, tender and sardonic musical," state press notes. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which was conceived by Rebecca Feldman, features music and lyrics by Tony Award-winner William Finn (Falsettos, Elegies) and a Tony Award-winning book by Rachel Sheinkin, with additional material by Jay Reiss.
