Going for a walk with my son some time early in 1975- he was then under two years of age and his English vocabulary small, but he talked about everything. It was a wintery evening and the moon was seen on and off through the clouds. Manuel expressed the idea that the moon was moving, saying "The moon is not aeroplane - the moon is aeroplane." "Thank you", I said, "Indeed it is."

About a couple of months after his moon statement Manuel was in the back garden playing flower pot breaking. When they were broken to his satisfaction, he called me out and, pointing at the scattered fragments, said "Fix that." I said "Fuck you" and went back to my business, whatever it was. Five minutes or so later I went out again and said to M "O.K. I'll fix it."
