A BRIGHT ROOM CALLED DAY to Return in Intimate Brooklyn Townhouse Staging

After a sold-out run last year, Tony Kushner's A Bright Room Called Day will return this October, this time in an artist's townhouse in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

If you saw the show last year, you know that this isn't a conventional revival. The audience sits alongside the actors in an actual Brooklyn home that becomes, simultaneously, a 1930s Berlin apartment. The play's questions about art, politics, friendship, fear, and what we do as the world disintegrates around us become very immediate when you're sitting in someone's kitchen, a few feet from the people living through it. Just like we're all living through it, more and more each day.

A Bright Room Called Day follows a group of artists and activists in 1930s Berlin as fascism takes hold around them, and they decide whether to wait or act, stay or go, fight or flee. Kushner originally wrote the play in the 1980s as a direct response to Reagan's America. Nearly 40 years later, the parallels between Hitler's Germany and today feel even more eerily resonant.

This production stars Molly Rose Heller, Aubyn Heglie, Aja Downing, Portal Rose, Jonathan Bock, Ivory Aquino, Toni Jenkins, Michael Cavadias, and Gideon Thaler. Stage managed by Hunter McIlvain, set and costume design by Justin Caron, sound design by Sid Diamond, projection design by Evan Frank, and lighting design by Jordan Barnett. Theresa Buchheister is the production's Fairy Godfather.

'These last few years have felt relentless. We're exhausted and scared, and this is one outlet to engage our energy and hope in spite of fear. It's an often overwhelming reality, and after the success of last year's production we will continue to explore it through the resonance of Tony Kushner's play. We have created a space for our audiences to explore these confusing and difficult emotions for themselves, safely, in a container with other people facing similar experiences.' - producer statement

A Bright Room Called Day will be performed for small audiences at a private residence in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, from October 8-30, 2026. The specific address will be given to ticket holders.
