92Y & O'Neill Theater Center to Host Evening of Performances & Discussions, 9/8

By:

As the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center plans for its 2015 summer season, what is the process for gathering and selecting the next great American plays and musicals?

Those curious about the O'Neill's iconic new work development process are encouraged to attend a free evening of performance and discussion at 92Y on Monday, September 8th at 7:30pm. The event will feature Playwrights Conference Artistic Director Wendy C. GoldbergGoldberg; Paulette Haupt, Artistic Director of the National Music Theater Conference; and O'Neill alums Adam Gwon, Sarah Hammond, and Deborah Zoe Laufer.

The conversation will explore the legacy of the O'Neill's programs and the influence of this legacy on plans for the future. Upcoming submission opportunities for writers will also be discussed. More information about the event can be found here.

The O'Neill will also make itself available to potential applicants around the country by hosting three online Q&A sessions about the process on the Center's Facebook page: September 30th at 1pm; October 5th at 3pm; and October 15th at 6pm.

The National Playwrights Conference, which just celebrated fifty years of new play development, is led by Artistic Director Wendy C. Goldberg. The conference supports playwrights during the creation and development of new play projects. Authors of the selected works will be awarded a residency for the month of July 2015, including an intensive rehearsal process and two staged, script-in-hand public readings. A stipend, housing, meals, and transportation are provided for each writer selected for this month-long residency.
