Pedro Luis Ferrer to Release New Album LA BUNGA on Dot Time Records
Recorded in Havana and Miami, the album features father-daughter collaborators Pedro Luis Ferrer and Lena Ferrer.
Cuban singer-songwriter, composer, poet and multi-instrumentalist Pedro Luis Ferrer will release a new album, LA BUNGA, on August 28, 2026, via Dot Time Records. The 14-track album (Dot Time Records DT9196) was recorded, mixed and mastered by Ferrer in Havana, Cuba and Miami, Florida in 2025, and produced by Ferrer.
Rooted in son, trova, guaracha and other Afro-Cuban traditions, Ferrer's music has never been about simply preserving the past. He researches it, absorbs it and transforms it, combining traditional musical forms with contemporary ideas, memorable melodies, lyrical wit and an unmistakably personal outlook. 'I am my own version of what is Cuban. I am my own version of son. I am my own version of trova. I am even my own version of the Cuban revolution.' That sense of individuality lies at the heart of La Bunga.
Ferrer performs on the album alongside his daughter Lena Ferrer, whose vocals, percussion and marimbula add another dimension to the music. Their voices create compelling harmonies that connect the intimacy of family with the wider musical history from which their work emerges.
All music and lyrics on La Bunga were written by Pedro Luis Ferrer. The album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Ferrer in Havana and Miami — two cities whose histories are themselves closely intertwined with Cuban music and culture.
Throughout his career, Ferrer has combined poetry with humor and musical sophistication with an appreciation for the simple things in life: truth, good food, beauty and freedom.
It is an approach that has earned him an international following and admiration from fellow musicians and critics alike. Grammy-winning Cuban musician Paquito D'Rivera has praised Ferrer's rare combination of lyricism, compositional sophistication, humor, voice and extraordinary command of string instruments.
La Bunga continues that journey. It is music that carries Cuba within it — not as a museum piece, but as something living, changing and intensely personal.
