The 9th Annual Thomas Barbour Playwrights Award continues this week with a reading of Across the Way by Perry Guzzi. Set in the early 1990's in New York City, Across the Way tells the story of two sisters: Chris, who has a rising career and is moving to Los Angeles, and troubled Abby, who doesn't want to go. It is a story about protecting those we love, no matter the cost. Across the Way is directed by Amy Wright.

This reading will take place on Friday, March 18 at 7:00 pm, and is followed by a reception.

Playwright Perry Guzzi's Ouagadougou was chosen as one of the Final 40 for the 2012 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival and Beach Trip will receive a two week run at the HB Playwrights Theater this April.

The Barbour Award was created by the family of writer/actor Thomas Barbour (Arthur, Great White Hope) as a way of continuing Mr. Barber's legacy of supporting new work for the stage. Every year, the Episcopal Actors' Guild partners with a different theatre company or playwriting program to present three new works with one writer being awarded a prize of $500. This year's partner is HB Studio. Past winners include Ian August (NJ Rep), Lynn Rosen, and Laura Eason (both The Women's Project).
