Following the success of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2015, the ASO and the State Theatre Company of South Australia join hands once again to present an inspired fantasy of words and music inspired by William Shakespeare’s great romantic tragedy Romeo & Juliet.
Shakespeare’s immortal work has inspired countless other interpretations and works of art in every medium – painters, sculptors, film-makers, poets and novelists have produced thousands of responses and versions. But above all, this blazing story of young love has inspired some of our greatest composers.
This will be a magical night of storytelling as Shakespeare’s timeless tale of Verona’s star-cross’d lovers is brought to life with some of the most passionate scenes from the play being performed in counterpoint to the brilliant music of Sergei Prokofiev, Hector Berlioz, Piotr-Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Nino Rota. With a cast of leading actors directed by Geordie Brookman joining the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Nicholas Carter, this will be an evening to remember.
