CIPX Kaurna Miyurna is a new photographic series by Kaurna artists Damien Shen and James Tylor, featuring seventeen large-scale portraits created as part of the international Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange project first conceived by Will Wilson, a Diné artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Using the historic tintype process, Shen and Tylor recontextualise images of Kaurna people, challenging colonial portraits produced in South Australia in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Sitters determine how they are represented, with the original tintype gifted to them, and large-scale reproductions on aluminium are displayed at the gallery with each sitter's permission.
