Ivo Van Hove, one of the world's most exciting directors, makes his National Theatre debut with a modern production of Ibsen's masterpiece. Press Night for Hedda Gabler is 12 December. The production will continue in repertoire until 21 March.

Just married. Bored already. Hedda longs to be free...

In this vital new version by Patrick Marber (Three Days in the Country, The Red Lion), Ruth Wilson (Luther, The Affair) returns to the NT to play the title role alongside a cast which includes Rafe Spall (Constellations)Chukwudi Iwuji, currently playing Hamlet for The Public Theater in New York, Kate Duchêne, Éva Magyar, Sinéad Matthews and Kyle Soller, who is currently appearing as Francis in the BBC's Poldark. The production will have set and lighting design by Jan Versweyveld, costume design by An D'Huys and sound by Tom Gibbons.

Hedda Gabler will be broadcast by NT Live to cinemas around the world on 9 March with encore performances from 23 March.

Hedda Gabler is supported by the Williams Charitable Trust.
