Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, in association with the Chicago Neo-Futurists, is pleased to announce the return of TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND, an eccentric mini-play showcase and a staple of Chicago's underground theatre scene for more than 25 years. Since its premiere in 1988, the show has found success in cities nationwide, including New York, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, where Woolly audiences will be enjoying this unique show for the fifth time.

TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND runs from December 7, 2015 to January 3, 2016.

TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND finds the Neo-Futurists racing against the clock to perform 30 miniature plays in just 60 minutes -- with new plays added every night. Audiences choose the order, so every performance is a unique experience. Inspired by Dada, surrealism, and real-life stories from the lives of the performers, the production has generated hundreds of mini-plays over the years.

"It's been an honor for Woolly to be the Washington home of TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND for several years," says Howard Shalwitz, Woolly Mammoth Artistic Director. "The Neos create an endless variety of brilliant theatrical miniatures from their own experience, which leads to a surprisingly direct and intimate engagement with the audience. Their work is dazzling intellectually and theatrically, and every performance feels like a party -- but one with depth and substance."

The Neo-Futurists, performers of TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND and creators of more than 60 other original, full-length productions, are a collective of wildly productive writer/director/performers who create immediate, non-illusory, interactive and head-slappingly affordable performances.

From their theater above a Chicago funeral home, the Neo-Futurists have toured from San Francisco to Romania, won the coveted Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival, taught Artistic Residencies based on their unique performance aesthetic at theaters such as Actors Theater of Louisville and Universities around the country. Their acclaimed play 43 Plays for 43 Presidents was performed for President Jimmy Carter (he liked it!). Admission to the New Year's Eve performance of TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND includes access to a pre-show happy hour and a catered post-show party featuring an open bar (beer and wine) and a champagne toast to ring in 2016. Tickets are currently available at $100, but are subject to an increase after November 30.

Now in its 36th Season, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company continues to hold its place at the leading edge of American theatre. Acknowledged as "one of the most influential outposts for the best new American plays" (The Washington Post), and "known for its productions of innovative new plays" (The New York Times), Woolly Mammoth is a national leader in the development of new works, and one of the best known and most influential mid-sized theatres in America.
