What would people tell you if they didn't think you could understand what they were saying? When the painfully shy Charlie arrives at a rural fishing lodge in need of a lot of peace and quiet, he finds out. Taking his friend's suggestion to avoid having to make conversation with the locals, he pretends he is from an exotic foreign land and speaks no English. All is well until he finds out more than he should.

Like all the rural fishing towns that populate comedies and horror movies alike, there are a few secrets lurking below the surface in Tilghman County, Georgia. When Charlie finds out just how serious things are, however, he is forced into a very awkward position: to reveal his lie along with everyone else's, or to keep quiet and watch as his companions' lives unravel around him.

"It's easy to see why The Foreigner is a favourite for Pacific Theatre's audience. It's a tale of tolerance, friendship, and the magic of kindness," says director Evan Frayne on the story. "It's also telling that Ron has opened the 30th anniversary season with a project full of the next generation of theatre artists... No theatre in Vancouver has a stronger commitment to supporting and developing young artists in Vancouver.

This cast of young artists (Kaitlin Williams, Mack Gordon, John Voth, Peter Carlone, Bryan Noble, and Ryan Scramstad) will be supported by veteran actor and Jessie Award winner Erla Faye Forsyth. Lighting design by Matthew Frankish. Set design by Lauchlin Johnston. Sound design by James Coomber. Costume design by Sydney Cavanagh. Stage management by Laura McLean. Direction by Jessie Award winner Evan Frayne.
