Following two sell-out runs at Battersea Arts Centre (BAC) in 2016, performances at the Barbican as part of the London International Mime Festival in 2015, and its Total Theatre Award nominated run at the 2014 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Theatre Ad Infinitum returns to BAC with its smash-hit, conjuring an Orwellian future where a totalitarian regime monitors the thoughts of its citizens through implants.

Charged with hunting down 'terrorists' who seek illegal disconnection, a young government agent encounters an enigmatic figure from his shadowy past. Inspired by Edward Snowden's revelations and science fiction films, this nightmarish tale of love, betrayal and technological power draws audiences into a sci-fi realm, entirely illuminated by LED strip and torchlight.

Light was created with Deaf actor Matty Gurney, who performed in the show during its Edinburgh run and reprises his role for the tour. Matty regularly appears on the BBC's See Hear and appeared in BSL soap opera Switched. Matty's involvement in the creative process has resulted in a performance that can be enjoyed by both Deaf and hearing audiences. Chris Bartholomew's sound designer draws on epic works, both contemporary and classical, to create a pulsing filmic score, cued live in collaboration with director George Mann who performs the live vocals in real time during the performance.

Created by the company behind critically acclaimed Translunar Paradise and Odyssey, which both return to the Pleasance at Edinburgh Festival Fringe this year for the company's 10th anniversary, Light is an original production from a company whose work shifts in style as they explore each new subject. Light returns on the heels of Bucket List, the company's new production for 2016, which examined neocolonialism and social mobility through the prism of Mexican-US relations. The show garnered critical acclaim, a Spirit of the Fringe Award, and enjoyed a London premiere at BAC and an extensive UK tour.

Director George Mann said, "The response to Light has constantly surprised me. I'm always fascinated to know what it is about a show that resonates with audiences. Light's form is exhilarating, but I believe something more profound is what keeps our audiences coming to see the show, sometimes more than once. Light was created following Snowden's surveillance revelations in 2013; we currently have a Prime Minister who wants to get rid of our Human Rights (including the right to privacy) and is pushing hard to implement the infamous Snoopers Charter. We live in worrying times and people are concerned about where our society and the world at large is headed. The power of dystopian science fiction, aside from its imaginative take on what's to come, is using 'the future' as a metaphor and a warning for the clear and present dangers in our own time. I think that the ongoing demand for Light is in part a testament to the fact that its themes continue to resonate."
