The Yard Theatre has been awarded National Portfolio status by Arts Council England. This means we will receive four years of investment in our work between April 2018 and March 2022, ensuring we can champion new artists from across the UK to develop bold new work.

The Yard's Founder and Artistic Director Jay Miller:

"W e are hugely proud and excited about Arts Council England's decision to bring The Yard into the National Portfolio. We built The Yard on a £9,700 grant from the Arts Council in 2011. Since that time we have remained committed to providing a space, unlike any other in London, where artists have the freedom to create brave, electric new work. As a result, we have established a reputation for challenging the status quo and illuminating what the future of theatre might look like.

As a young organisation, from our artists to our audiences, we use our local roots and our management of local community centre Hub67 to inspire creativity in young people, ensuring that they see the arts as intrinsic in their everyday lives.

We hope that, as a National Portfolio Organisation, The Yard will be a beacon for new work in the UK, providing a newly-consistent framework for artists to develop their work and a home for young people to be brave and celebrate risk. We look forward to sharing this with audiences from around the corner to those from across the country and beyond."

The Yard is a multi-award winning 110-seat theatre, bar and music venue, located in a repurposed warehouse in Hackney Wick. Founded by Jay Miller in 2011 and built by a team of 50 volunteers using recycled and reclaimed materials, The Yard is about new ideas, new writing, and the live event.
