Talk Is Free Theatre is delighted to announce today the cast for a new staging of a musical with music and lyrics by one of contemporary theatre's greatest talents, Stephen Sondheim.

Sunday in the Park with George features the book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by Sondheim (whose works include masterpieces such as Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods). TIFT's production is directed by Steve Ross, a 12 year veteran of the Stratford Festival and a long-time actor TIFT actor, making his directing debut.

Ross' cast is filled with other Stratford Festival artists including real life husband and wife Mike Nadajewski and Glynis Ranney as the lovers George and Dot. They are joined by other Stratford Festival company members including Sean Arbuckle, Shane Carty, Alexis Gordon, Alana Hibbert, and Jennifer Stewart. Other cast members include Tess Benger who joins this cast from the Shaw Festival, David Coomber recently seen in the NAC and RMTC companies and Judy Marshak a regular on CBC and CTV programs.

Sunday in the Park with George is inspired by George Seurat's magnificent painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. As George struggles to find his artistic voice in creating his pointillist masterpiece, he becomes more and more distant from his real world love. Meanwhile, the characters that inhabit Seurat's painting have lives and opinions unto themselves. A century later, Seurat's descendant is also an artist, and finds himself grappling with similar issues of artistic creation.

Sunday in the Park with George creative team bringing Seurat's world of artistry to life also include Musical Director Mark Camilleri, Set and Costume Designer Laura Gardner and Lighting Designer Joe Pagnan.

Sunday in the Park with George will be performed at the Park Place Theatre at the Mady, 1 Dunlop Street West in Barrie, Ontario. It previews on January 28, 2016, opens on January 29, 2016 and runs to February 6, 2016. The production is generously sponsored by TD.
