Toronto Youth Theatre, winner of two 2010 Broadway World awards for youth theatre productions, announced today the appointment of Neil Silcox as Artistic Director for the Company.

Neil brings an extensive twelve year history of working in youth theatre, both at the well known Original Kids Theatre Company in London, Ontario and with Toronto Youth Theatre. His educational background, with an Honours Degree in Drama from the University of Toronto, an applied degree in Acting from Sheridan College, combined with a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Western Ontario make him uniquely qualified to work with youth in theatre.
Neil's previous work with Toronto Youth Theatre includes his direction of the 2010 Broadway World award winning production of RENT. Most recently he directed the very successful 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee for TYT. His production history with Toronto Youth Theatre has included productions of Into the Woods, The Rocky Horror Show, and the fast paced Show in a Week.

When asked what excites him about becoming Artistic Director for Toronto Youth Theatre, Neil responded, ‘I think the TYT produces the highest quality youth theatre in Toronto.' He continued, ‘TYT's success has come from setting our expectations of the cast very high and by committing ourselves to the best production value as well. Ours is a very demanding program but the product we produce is of unparalleled quality' he finished.

The first production for Neil Silcox as Artistic Director will be the Tony award winning ‘Spring Awakening'. This production will be the first ever for a youth theatre company, and Neil is looking forward to taking on this edgy rock musical, ‘It's set in the Victorian-era German countryside, but tackles head on all the messy, funny, passionate troubles of adolescence...which makes it perfect for Toronto Youth Theatre.'
