Unapologetic, brutal and unflinching, 2016 Toronto Fringe audience hit, Silk Bath, returns to the stage at the 2017 Next Stage Theatre Festival. Lauded for its brutal look at the psychological challenges of Chinese-Canadian immigrants, Silk Bath will be the first show in NSTF history to be presented in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Silk Bath provides a ruthless look at the journey to citizenship once the paperwork is signed. Set under the lights of a dystopic reality TV show, Silk Bath follows four Chinese-Canadian immigrants forced to undergo a series of competitions to prove that they belong in their new home. Reworked since its Fringe debut, Silk Bath questions whether immigrants can ever shed the label of outsider? What must they lose in order to belong?

Silk Bath is written by Bessie Cheng (Summerworks - Aperture), Aaron Jan (ROWING - One of Mooney on Theatre's critics' picks of the 2016 Fringe, SWAN), and Gloria Mok, three alumni of Fu-GEN Asian Canadian Theatre Company's "Kitchen" playwriting program. It stars Summerworks and Fringe veteran, En Lai Mah (VanGroovy, NNNN; Served, NNNN), director-actor, Dorcas Chiu (Dreams, Canadian Rep Company, NNNN) and Amanda Zhou (Madam Mao, NNNN), granddaughter of legendary Chinese singing star, Xuan Zhou.
