According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, New Line Theatre has added two shows to its 25th Anniversary season, including the rock opera AMERICAN IDIOT in March 2016 and the regional premiere of the cult, off-Broadway hit HEATHERS this fall.

AMERICAN IDIOT, based on the Green Day album, originally opened on Broadway in 2010 and ran for over a year, featuring several appearances by the band's lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. With music by Green Day and lyrics by Armstrong, the musical follows three disaffected young men -- Johnny, Will and Tunny. Johnny and Tunny try to escape from the suburbs and seek freedom and excitement in the city, while Will stays home with his pregnant girlfriend, Heather. AMERICAN IDIOT won two 2010 Tony Awards and was nominated for Best Musical. It was recently featured in the 2013 documentary film BROADWAY IDIOT.

HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL, adapted for the stage from Daniel Waters' iconic 1989 dark comedy film, debuted off-Broadway last year. Written by Olivier winner and Tony nominee Laurence O'Keefe (LEGALLY BLONDE, BAT BOY) and Emmy winner Kevin Murphy (REEFER MADNESS, "Desperate Housewives"), HEATHERS is set in the late 80s at Westerberg High, which is being terrorized by a shoulder-padded, scrunchie-wearing junta: Heather, Heather and Heather, the hottest and cruelest girls in all of Ohio. But misfit Veronica Sawyer rejects their evil regime for a new boyfriend, the dark sexy stranger J.D., who plans to put the Heathers in their place - six feet under.

New Line's season will also feature JERRY SPRINGER THE OPERA (March 5-28) and THE THREEPENNY OPERA (May 28-June 20). And New Line Theatre Off Line will present a cabaret later this month, featuring tunes from HANDS ON A HARDBODY, HIGH FIDELITY, HEDWIG, INTO THE WOODS and more.
