Acclaimed singer, actress and impressionist Christina Bianco performed at the Elgar Room in the Royal Albert Hall. The show included popular songs, from musical theatre classics and well known contemporary hits, performed by Christina both in her own voice, as well as in the voices of those who made them famous. Christina Bianco will be performing at the Edinburgh Festival with Cabaret star Velma Celli and again later in the year (September 5th and 6th) in Londons iconic Hippodrome Casino. The two sold-out evenings celebrated extraordinary talent from the musical theater, jazz and Cabaret communities. Jim Caruso and Billy Stritch have become known as 'The Entertainer's Entertainers,' thanks in part to their long-running Sunday night residency at Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle Hotel. The musical duo has been joined at the grand piano by Bono, Liza Minnelli and Michael Feinstein, among many others. This past Sunday night's show was a parade of theatrical types, including Linda Lavin, (currently starring in Nicky Silver's Too Much Sun), who belted a torch song. Jon Weber one of the most prominent music directors in New York Cabaret performed his one man show at the Metropolitan Room last night. The acclaimed Milwaukee born Jazz pianist and composer lectured and played a program which demonstrated how jazz piano evolved over the last 115 years. From Scott Joplin to Keith Jarrett Mr. Weber recreated the sounds and styles of the various pianists and showed how they influenced piano jazz over the years. Jon is the host of Piano Jazz with Jon Weber on National Public Radio and his recent album titled Simple Complex features his own compositions. (more...)

STARS IN THE ALLEY, presented by United Airlines, was presented yesterday, May 21st in Shubert Alley, between Broadway and 8th Avenue and 44th and 45th Streets. To add to the festivities leading up to the Tony Awards, the free outdoor concert in the heart of the Theatre District celebrated Broadway with star appearances and exciting performances from over 20 new shows and long-running favorites, accompanied by a live 12-piece orchestra. The Old Globe presents Christopher Durang's Tony Award-winning farce Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which will include Candy Buckley as Masha, Marcia DeBonis as Sonia, Tyler Lansing Weaks as Spike, Allison Layman as Nina, Martin Moran as Vanya, and Haneefah Wood as Cassandra. Jessica Stone will direct, based on the Tony-nominated Broadway direction of Old Globe Associate Artist Nicholas Martin, whose loss on April 30 devastated the theatre world*. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will run now through June 22, 2014 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe'sConrad Prebys Theatre Center.
