BWW Review: SYLVIA Opens Up a Dog's Mind to Reveal What Makes a Truly Loving CompanionBWW Review: SYLVIA Opens Up a Dog's Mind to Reveal What Makes a Truly Loving Companion
by Shari Barrett - Nov 5, 2016

In the 1995 comedy SYLVIA by A.R. Gurney, married couple Greg (Steve Howard revisiting the role he played with Tanna in 2011) and Kate (appropriately named Beege Barkette) are empty-nesters in the big city. In the opening scene, Greg and Sylvia arrive home after meeting in the park where Sylvia, a bouncy, frisky poodle mix, literally adopted Greg. Tanna jumps up and down, running around just as a new dog inside a home would react, her nervousness and excitement leading her to smell every single inch of the place, leave a liquid deposit, and then remind her new companion Over and Over again how he is her God she will love and respect forever - as long as he never hits her. BWW Review: WOMEN WITHOUT WALLS Takes Four Incredible Actresses to Their Final DestinationBWW Review: WOMEN WITHOUT WALLS Takes Four Incredible Actresses to Their Final Destination
by Shari Barrett - Nov 9, 2015

WOMEN w/o WALLS is based on the myth of Charon the ferryman on the River Styx, inspired by Dante's Inferno and Sartre's No Exit. It is an exploration of the fine line between life and death, decision and non-decision, and the intense human experience of connection. While there is no doubt from the moment you meet the four characters that they are on a trip to their final destination, each must find a way to fulfill her destiny before the train reaches its destination. BWW Reviews: NOT THAT JEWISH Celebrates the Heartfelt Life of Comedienne Monica PiperBWW Reviews: NOT THAT JEWISH Celebrates the Heartfelt Life of Comedienne Monica Piper
by Shari Barrett - May 8, 2015

NOT THAT JEWISH is a wonderful evening of entertainment and laughs in the Jewish Women's Theatre's new home at The Braid Theater in Santa Monica, an extension of the Bergamot Arts District. Monica Piper shares her autobiographical journey trying to prove just what it takes to be Jewish, especially when you never attend temple. She discovers that ultimately, it comes down to having a Jewish heart, something anyone can have as long as it is filled with compassion, humor, doing good deeds, acceptance of others, and a deep love of family. It is by Yiddish definition what it takes to be a mensch, a real good person. (more...)

Guys. We're just over a week away from opening… WHAT?! The last month has gone by SO FAST. Over the last two weeks, our team has been creating our Jingletown from the ground up - literally. Most all of the graffiti are on the walls, our 7-Eleven is lit up and our beers, bongs and booze are all in their correct positions! They have built our stages and in doing so, have helped us create these characters lives. One couch serves as the best and worst times in Will's life, one mattress holds Johnny and Whatsername's entire love story, one table is Tunny's life-altering hospital bed and one town that changes completely from the beginning of the show to the end. BWW Reviews: Brilliant IN A WORD at Cleveland Public TheatreBWW Reviews: Brilliant IN A WORD at Cleveland Public Theatre
by Roy Berko - Apr 26, 2015

What are the feelings of a husband and wife when they want to conceive a child, but can't? What are the ramifications for that childless family when they are given the opportunity to adopt the 'perfect' child? What is it like when that family becomes aware that their child is autistic? How do parents cope with a child who screams when he becomes frustrated and doesn't have the words to express his needs or habitually follows a pattern Over and Over, such as reading the same book again and again, or can't socialize with others? What emotionally happens to that family when that child disappears? (more...)
