BWW Reviews: Tinder Hits All the Right Notes in Otterbein's SWEET CHARITYBWW Reviews: Tinder Hits All the Right Notes in Otterbein's SWEET CHARITY
by Paul Batterson - Sep 30, 2014

In the delightful Otterbein University production of SWEET CHARITY, Charity Hope Valentine (brilliantly portrayed by Madison Tinder) has worn her heart on her shelves so many times that she has it tattooed on her arm. The heart-shaped tattoo could be an analogy of the dancehall hostess' love life. It bears the name of a man she planned to move in with, only he dumped her (literally) and left her to drown in a lake at the park after stealing her purse. (more...)

by Jeffrey Walker - May 25, 2015

The Lusty Month of May; like the song says: 'It's time to do a wicked thing or two!' It's May, the time when spring brings that hot-blooded, four letter word: lust. Musicals have had a steady history of lusty musical numbers. There are songs about rolling in the hay, and others extolling the virtues of different (ahem) flavors of man-candy. Some songs are paens to hot, steamy nights, and some are about what you do on those kind of nights.  (more...)

by Chris Gibson - Jun 24, 2015

The MUNY continues its season with an exuberant and colorful staging of HAIRSPRAY, the musical based on filmmaker and author John Waters' most accessible, and mainstream, movie. Of course, the master of bad taste allowed some of the rougher edges to get smoothed over in the process, but the core messages of understanding and acceptance in the face of prejudice and intolerance is still present, and that's what's truly important. Get out while the weather is gorgeous and take in the MUNY's fabulous production of HAIRSPRAY! (more...)

BWW Reviews: HAIRSPRAY Misses a Couple of Beats at Lanier Middle SchoolBWW Reviews: HAIRSPRAY Misses a Couple of Beats at Lanier Middle School
by Hannah Wing - Jul 20, 2015

In 1960's Baltimore, Tracy Turnblad's dreams are as big as her hair. She longs to be a council member on 'The Corny Collins Show', her favorite TV dance show, and to meet (perhaps even marry) her long time crush, Link Larkin, a regular on the show. When Tracy hears that 'The Corny Collin's Show' is looking for a new member, she is determined to audition despite the worries of her mother, Edna. Tracy's pursuit of her dream leads her to realize that the struggle for equality is more important than ever before. City of Fairfax Theatre Company and Truro Anglican Church's production of Hairspray is at times 'a gas' (That's 60's lingo for a lot of fun), but its technical aspects are less than groovy. by Jack L. B. Gohn - Jul 13, 2015

Whitney and Max have been compelled by their mental disorders to turn their backs on the real world, and on the actual human connections available to them with friends and family, to obsess instead about imaginary worlds of their own making.
