Two tramps waiting by a tree in the middle of nowhere does not sound like the most engaging evening of theater. But when it comes from the absurdist mind of Samuel Beckett, you have one of the most thought provoking plays of the 20th century with his brilliant, "Waiting for Godot". But it's still not always engaging unless you have the right team putting it up. Fortunately Director George Mount has assembled a superb cast with an excellent take on the show that keeps it completely riveting. (more...)

Members of Naked Shakespeare join student actors from Acorn's eight-month long training program in their final production of the season, directed by Michael Howard, co-founder of the Naked Shakespeare series and a veteran actor and director in the Greater Portland area. Shakespeare's classic play comes to live in an innovative staging that provides a unique perspective on the Dane's dilemma. The production is co-sponsored by the USM Department of English, and performs from May 30 to June 14 at the Wishcamper Center at USM. Performances of 'Hamlet' are free of charge for USM students and staff with an $10 charge for all other audience members. (more...)

After 32 years, it seems as if every year, everyone and his agent sends a one-act play script to The Ensemble Studio Theatre for its annual marathon of one-act plays, the oldest, acclaimed one-act play festival in the country. This year is no exception with 886 one-act scripts totaling 21,264 pages which were read by 17 readers over 5 months. From that, Ensemble Studio Theatre artistic director William Carden selected 10 plays this spring to be presented on two separate programs for the Ensemble Studio Theatre's 2010 Marathon of One-Act Plays May 24 through June 26. VENUS IN FUR is currently being presented in the Studio Theatre by the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, and it's an erotically-charged, sizzling presentation that's powered by incisive direction and exceptional performances. I can't speak highly enough of this smoldering tale. It unfolds with a myriad of twists and turns that serve to heighten the dramatic tension considerably. The study, sponsored by ReviewInc (www.reviewinc.com) and conducted by the university's MBA program, found that nearly 75 percent of the 261 businesses surveyed monitor customer satisfaction in some form.
