Week One Winner Announced For The 7th Annual February Players Theatre Short Play Festival

Things are heating up in the village as The Players Theatre continues to host its annual February Short Play Festival - Sex! The festival opened with a bang this week featuring five new plays with themes that ranged from S&M to Twisted Trysts to Little Red Revamped.

Each week one play is selected, by audience vote, as the best of the week. The winner of week one was Christopher Marshall whose play, Turnabout, is a dark comedy of reminiscent of a French farce with a sexy, contemporary twist. Mr. Marshall directed the cast of three which included: James McKinnon as Eric, Jerii Aquino as Lisa and Christopher Silva as Jack. Christopher is a National Award Winning Playwright. His play Voodoo and the Priestess won the National Association for Dramatic and Speech Arts playwright competition. He stated that "he is always excited and humbled to have his work performed by lovers of theater for lovers of theater."

The other four productions featured last week were: The Depressed Hustler by Michael S. Piatkowski, Countdown by Straton Rushing, The Fairy Tale of America by Michael Niederman and Business As Usual by Genny Yosco. They were selected for the festival from nearly 100 submissions.

The Players Theatre Short Play Festival and Be Bold! Productions encourage playwrights to push the boundaries of convention and explore our most basic instincts by producing something new and provocative for the annual Sex - themed festival each February. Celebrating its 7th year, "Sex!" runs thru February 25 with 10 more steamy plays to be presents - five each week. The Short Play and Musical Festival (SPF) is presented three times a year. The June theme is NYC and the October theme is horror.

The Festival runs through February 25th at The Players Theatre in the 3rd floor Steve and Marie Sgouros Black Box located at 115 MacDougal Street in the West Village.
