Opening Weekend for DRIVING MISS DAISY at Totem Pole Playhouse

Totem Pole Playhouse, Pennsylvania's premiere summer theater, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA, is pleased to announce the opening night performance of the first play in the theatre's four-show subscription series, Alfred Uhry's, Driving Miss Daisy. The popular film version went on to win nine Academy Awards including Best Picture. The production will have three low-cost previews this Friday, May 26, at 8pm and Saturday, May 27, at 2pm and 8pm with all general admission seats only $20.00, followed by the Opening on Sunday, May 27, at 2pm. Third Street Music School Settlement Awards the New York Community Trust Harris Scholarship

Third Street Music School Settlement will be presenting three students graduating this June as recipients of the New York Community Trust Harris Scholarship.  This year's scholars, Emma Peleg, 17, Hale Sheffield, 17, and Jennifer Loo, 17, will each receive $25,000 over four years towards their college expenses.  Entering college in fall 2017, the scholars have been accepted to schools such as Yale University, Princeton University, Duke University, SUNY Stony Brook, Binghamton University, The New School, New York University, CUNY Hunter, CUNY Baruch, Oberlin College, and Northeastern University. American Theater Company's (ATC) Youth Ensemble presents a 50-minute abridgement by Jess McLeod and Sarah Slight of the critically acclaimed The Project(s)-a documentary play on Chicago's public housing conceived, co-written and originally directed by ATC's late Artistic Director PJ Paparelli and co-written by Joshua Jaeger-July 14 - 23, 2017. Directed by Monty Cole, the production features Youth Ensemble members Latrel Crawford, Danielle Jean-Baptiste, Alex King, Li Luzietti, Jenna Makkawy, Liliana Mastroianni, Azalia Resendiz, Keenya Riley, Ireon Roach, Leah Schiffman, Leojae Steward, and Ervin Tobar. The Youth Ensemble is meeting with Chicago public housing residents originally interviewed for the play, in order to learn more about the documentary theater-making process and help with character development prior to performing the piece. BRIC Announces Artists Selected for Summer Residency Program

BRIC, the leading provider of free cultural programming in Brooklyn, announces the eight recipients of the annual BRICworkspace visual artistresidency program for the summer of 2017. BRIC was able to double the number of artists in residence this summer, from four to eight, due to a new donation of space at 505 State Street in Downtown Brooklyn, courtesy of Alloy Development. The summer 2017 awardees will be an all-female roster, including Nicole Awai Esperanza Cortes, Lucia Cuba, Phoebe Grip, Katya Grokhovsky, Katherine Toukhy, Jamie Warren and Monika Weiss. 2017 JMK Award Winners Announced

The Trustees of the JMK Trust are delighted to announce today that the winner of the 20th anniversary James Menzies-Kitchin Young Director Award is Josh Roche. Chosen after the now-legendary JMK selection process from another record-breaking number of applicants, Josh will be directing My Name is Rachel Corrie, the celebrated piece of verbatim theatre created from the writings of Corrie herself and co-edited by the late Alan Rickman and Katherine Viner. His production will be staged in the autumn at the Young Vic, with performance dates announced soon. The runner up this year was Nathan Crossan-Smith with a proposal for a production of Debbie Tucker-Green's random and will receive a £2,000 award. (more...)
