Craig Bierko Joins La MaMa's AdA

The Tony nominated actor Craig Bierko (THE MUSIC MAN) has joined the cast of AdA (Author directing Author) -- an evening comprised of new one act plays by American playwright Neil LaBute and Italian playwright Marco Calvani, in which each playwright will direct the other's work -- to be presented by La MaMa at the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) in Manhattan, with preview performances starting September 28 prior to an official press opening Sunday, September 30. Both plays are receiving their American premieres and will be performed on the same program at every performance of AdA. (more...)

This replica of an ancient Greek theatre nestled into the hillside of the bucolic campus offers a unique theatrical event. The Learned Ladies begins on June 18th and continues through July 27th. Director Jenna Ware, who also adapted the piece, pulls out all of the stops with this riotously funny play. Featuring a cast of 11 new-comers and Company favorites Jenne Jadow and Dana Harrison Les Faux Pas: or The Counter Plots kicks off the Bankside Festival. Press Opening is Saturday, July 6 at 5:30PM. Westport Country Playhouse Opens TARTUFFE, 7/17

Westport Country Playhouse will stage Moliere's timeless comedy, "Tartuffe," featuring in the title role three-time Tony Award-nominee Marc Kudisch (Broadway's "9 to 5," "The Apple Tree," "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," "Assassins," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Bells Are Ringing," "The Wild Party," "The Scarlet Pimpernel (3.0)," "High Society," "Beauty and the Beast," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," and "A Minister's Wife."). Dennis Krausnick Plays Caesar for 14 Shows Only at Shakespeare & Company, 7/15-8/2

Shakespeare & Company's Dennis Krausnick, a founder and also Director of Training, steps into the title role of Julius Caesar for a brief run beginning July 15 through August 2. Nigel Gore, who has been playing Caesar since it opened several weeks ago, takes a short-term leave from the show after this weekend's performance on Sunday July 13-Gore will be back in the role Saturday, August 9. Following last winter's wildly successful run of Molière's The Learned Ladies, a hilarious French farce will once again heat up the Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre in February and March at Shakespeare & Company. This year, a talented ensemble of Company artists will take on award-winning playwright David Ives's (Venus in Fur, All in the Timing) razor sharp and rib-tickling adaptation of Pierre Corneille's classic farce, The Liar, running from February 1 through March 24. The production is directed by founding member Kevin G. Coleman, the critically acclaimed director of The Memory of Water (2011) and The Winter's Tale (2010), among many others. (more...)

PRECIOSITY Coming to Savoy at Curtis Park, 4/11-19

What happens when you take two social climbing wannabes from the era of Moliere and drop them in modern times to review art? Denver-based production company Horse & Cart wanted to find out and thus the original comedy Preciosity was born. This world-premiere theatrical installation opens April 11 at the Savoy at Curtis Park. After nearly seven months in production, Preciosity will play Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm through April 19. The Shakespeare Theatre will hold a Volunteer Open House on Thursday, May 15th at 7:30 p.m. at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre in Madison. What happens when you take two social climbing wannabes from the era of Moliere and drop them in modern times to review art? Denver-based production company Horse & Cart wanted to find out and thus the original comedy Preciosity was born. This world-premiere theatrical installation opens today, April 11 at the Savoy at Curtis Park. After nearly seven months in production, Preciosity will play Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm through April 19. (more...)
