The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) will host four Shakespeare on the Road travelers July 28-August 1, 2014, as part of the group's 60-day, 10,000-mile road trip to 14 Shakespeare festivals in the U.S. and Canada to celebrate the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth. From June 13 through October 1, 2014, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York will present the exhibition Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today, which, along with in-depth education programs and online learning tools, inaugurates the second phase of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative. Organized by Pablo León de la Barra, Guggenheim UBS MAP Curator, Latin America, the exhibition features contemporary works by 40 artists and collaborative duos representing 15 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico (United States), Uruguay, and Venezuela. Following its presentation in New York, Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today will travel to Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (MAM) and Museo Jumex in Mexico City. (more...)

Four Festive Holiday Shows Make Their Way to Segerstrom Center This Winter

Even with its 'endless Summer' weather, Orange County certainly embraces the spirit of the holidays. This year, audiences can look forward to four unique and fun-filled seasonal shows at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The holiday concert season at the Center kicks off with beloved American singer/songwriter Judy Collins in her show, Holidays and Hits (December 6) performing an array of holiday classics as well as her inspiring interpretations of folk standards. This is followed by the whimsical and critically acclaimed show DR. SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS! THE MUSICAL (December 10 - 14). The enchanting and ever popular Celtic Woman returns with the spirited show Home for Christmas - The Symphony Tour (December 15), and, finally, the popular Fiesta Navidad with Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano (December 23) rounds out the holiday programming with an evening of traditional Mexican songs and dance. A performance of Verdi's Requiem that is a tripartite collaboration highlights the 2014-15 season of Kent Tritle, called 'New York's reigning choral conductor' by The New York Times. In an event emblematic of Kent's multiple roles in the city's choral life, he will conduct a performance of the massive work by the Oratorio Society of New York, of which he is Music Director, and the Symphony and Symphonic Chorus of the Manhattan School of Music, where he is Director of Choral Activities, in the grand space of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, where he is Director of Cathedral Music and Organist -- with a new choral configuration that features the more-than-250 singers on risers in the cathedral's Great Choir space.
