Signs of Life is an exploration of life in the Jewish artists' ghetto created by the Nazis in the Czech town of Terezin during World War II. Hitler renamed it Theresienstadt and his propaganda cynically proclaimed it "A City for the Jews". He proceeded to populate Theresienstadt with the most prominent artists, composers, scientists, and scholars of Europe. A vibrant artistic community emerged and the ghetto was alive with concerts, plays, and lectures. The Nazi's, for their own international propaganda purposes, coerced their prisoners to depict Terezin as a place where they lived free lives. But hidden from the watchful eyes of their captors, the artists created secret pictures and writings which were concealed and smuggled out to alert the world to what was really happening. They felt that, because of their covert efforts, the truth could survive. Signs of Life is a true story of love, defiance and the power of art.

by BWW News Desk - Sep 20, 2013

Joel Derfner didn't want to get gay married. He doesn't gay grocery shop and he doesn't have a gay driver's license. Joel's road to marriage was burdened with barriers and labels simply because the love of his life is of the same sex. Recognizing that his personal story is a reflection of the national conversation about the “new civil rights movement,” Joel, with searing wit and unrelenting honesty and humor, wrote LAWFULLY WEDDED HUSBAND: HOW MY GAY MARRIAGE WILL SAVE THE AMERICAN FAMILY (University of Wisconsin Press; September 19, 2013.) BRAVO@KAT to Stage FIDDLER ON THE ROOF JR., 6/8-9
by BWW News Desk - May 19, 2013

What possibly could be said or written about a production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF Jr. that hasn't already been announced countless times? Probably nothing except the one word 'tradition' and that's the lasting essence of this theatrical phenomenon on two levels for this BRAVO@KAT student production. The show retells the ethnic traditions of a specific family but it has universal appeal. The 'tradition' here is a dual one because it includes the re-enactment of the cherished Broadway tradition of teaching new generations of American children the theatrical classics of our culture. BWW Recaps: IDOL Sends One Finalist 'Home'

BWW Recaps: IDOL's Top-12 Show Signs of Life
by Matt Tamanini - Mar 6, 2014

Well, after last week's mini-disaster of a top-13 week, there was not much that American Idol could have thrown out on stage tonight that wouldn't have been an improvement. The home-visit episode, where the final three contestants receive ticker tape parades in their respective hometowns, has been the most emotional in each of IDOL's first 12 seasons. So apparently, new producer Per Blankens decided to use some of that emotion in the early stages of this season. While both the vocals and performances were stark improvements over last week, I'm not sure that this episode is going to harken back to the Golden Days of AMERICAN IDOL's dominance. (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Jul 24, 2013

Nationwide: Talented poet Joy Elan announced today the publication of her second book of poetry 'SILENCE IS NOT ALWAYS GOLDEN: A Poetic Revolution.' Her new offering is quite a departure from its more genteel predecessor, 'Signs of Life: Past, Present, and Future,' which told stories of the normal, yet complicated daily lives of a lover, student, worker, mother, and other recognizable identities. 'SILENCE IS NOT ALWAYS GOLDEN' is poetic anthology that defies the norm, boasting a harder, more aggressive edge.
